Easter Week End Walsh River Canoe Trip
Day 4 - 11km's
As we packed up our final camp site which was by far the best, we reflected on our trip and pondered on what might still lie ahead, as the gorge we were in had not yet opened up. We expected to see some camps in the next water hole, as it is accessible by a dirt track from Chillagoe. There had been a lot of cars or quad bikes on the sandy beach areas and a camp fire or two still smouldering, but no one! We paddled on by and into some nice granite slab type rapids that went for a couple of kilometres on and off. It was at the end of the rapids when we got back into some tree sieves and a pool that we spotted our 1st campers in 4 days. They were pretty amazed when we told them we had started in Dimbulah 4 days earlier. We drifted past a few more camps until DJ reckoned we were close to the car. As luck would have it a bunch of campers were just driving out so DJ and Glen jumped a ride with one of them back to our bus and trailer. We waited for them to return with good news and hopefully a trailer. Not only was the repaired wheel with the trailer, but $70 change as well. Thanks to the family who did this for us! All was good and we loaded up and headed off albeit at a snail pace for the 15km's of dirt track back out to Chillagoe. We couldn't afford another flat obviously. On our way back to Dimbulah we passed the campers that had helped us out. They were stopped on the side of the road with their bonnet up. It took us a few km's to find a turn around, but we went back to check if they were OK. They were and we thanked them for their help and headed on home.
