Cairns Kayaking
Cairns and it's surrounding region has the highest average rainfalls in the country, with a wet season spanning November to March. During these months, the mountainous back drop, forces the rain to fall onto the hinterland just west of the area. Overnight down pours of 200 to 300mm are not uncommon. From here, some spectacular rivers form and carve their way to the sea through the Great Dividing Range.
Some of the larger rivers run all year round. The paddling around Cairns can vary from afternoon runs to 5 day camping trips, 1 in 10 grade V+ steep creeks to leisurely grade II river runs. There are still creeks and rivers here yet to be paddled.

Always clean up and respect our delicate environment. Leave only a ripple, & take nothing but photos.
We hope to see you on a river soon.

The AJ Hackett Big Gorge Shoot Out - Crystal Cascade, Saturday the 24th of march from 9am
Watch on as white water kayakers disregard all respect for self preservation as they race head to head down a 1 km section of the steep creek gorge known as Crystal cascades. They will be racing head to head down this intense, tight, narrow steep creek. Competitors will encounter 10 major class 4 to 5 rapids over a 1 km section of creek. This will be not only a very intense race for competitors, but visually spectacular for spectators as there is a large footpath that runs the entire length of the creek with viewing vantage points of all the major rapids.
You do not want to miss out on seeing this. There may even be some waterfall demonstrations at the top of the river throughout the day. You will have to be there to see it though.

After party -Union Jack Hotel, Cairns City, Saturday the 24th of March 2012 from 6pm
Come and party on with us at the Union Jack Hotel on Saturday night. Live Bands, Cheap Drinks, Big outdoor beer garden and Free Entry! Come on down and get loose with us, last year was big, but this year is going to be event bigger.
